Hello! I'm Verity Heysen Kizek, an illustrator, designer, mother, and coffee fiend living in Istanbul. I live here with my 3 year old son, Yashar, and my wonderful husband, Senol. We moved here a little over 3 years ago from Australia (I am Australian and my husband is Turkish...we met in Istanbul over 10 years ago...but that's another story!). I keep myself very busy - selling prints of my work, cards and notebooks in my etsy shop www.thelightgarden.etsy.com I also do commission work from time to time along with a bunch of other things, like designing wallpaper for studionommo.com and invitations for shichijiro.com And now there are some more projects in the pipeline that I am looking forward to sharing here!
I started writing this blog when we first moved to Istanbul, with 3 suitcases, a 3 month old and no jobs! It has helped me to appreciate everything around me, get wonderful support from others and to create! Now I couldn't imagine life without it. Now I use this blog to share some of the little highlights of our life here - time with my son, especially making things, seeing Istanbul, creating, illustrating, cooking, making and discovering.
